JAKARTA - President Director of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya Pamrihadi Wiraryo said that his party as DKI BUMD is currently preparing rice reserves more than 2 times than last year.

This is done to anticipate the impact of drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon in various regions in Indonesia.

"Last year, we had food reserves of approximately 11 thousand tons for the Food Station. This year, we already have food reserves of up to 20 thousand tons. So, almost twice as much," said Pamrihadi at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, August 14.

This effort to increase rice reserves is a food security strategy for DKI which is stored at the Cipinang Rice Main Market, East Jakarta.

Pamrihadi explained that the additional stock had been prepared several years ago with the expansion of cooperation between regions (contract farming) and cultivation itself (on farming).

"Before the issue (El Nino) existed, we had actually anticipated that we had done since 3-4 years ago with an increase in the area of land for food reserves, namely with a farming contract and on farming," explained Pamrihadi.

In August this year, the contact farming land run by the Food Station covering an area of 10,300 hectares, increased from 8,160 hectares last year.

"Meanwhile, for our own cultivation, we have set 1,000 hectares, currently, 770 hectares have been achieved, meaning that 77 percent have been achieved, only 23 percent of the turtle realization is left," he said.

From this condition, Pamrihadi asked the public to shop wisely and not panic buying or stock large amounts of rice because it could result in a shortage of stocks. Given, rice stocks in Jakarta are said to be safe in anticipating El Nino.

"The people of DKI are asked not to stock up on as much food as possible, that can cause panic buying, so that inflation will automatically be controlled. We can say that there is no significant impact on the economy in DKI for El Nino," he added.
