JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin ensured that the aspirations and proposals he absorbed from editor-in-chief, journalists and publishers regarding the publisher rights (issuer rights) were already on the President's desk.

"I said I support these proposals and I have conveyed them to the President and they have been processed, they are already at the President's desk," said the Vice President as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 10.

The vice president said the draft for the publisher rights or regulations governing media publisher cooperation with digital platforms, which will later be regulated in Presidential Regulation, is in the hands of the President.

"So I'm still waiting, I'll ask the President later because I've conveyed it and responded to my meeting with reporters, with the publishers, at that time the editor-in-chief too," said the Vice President.

Previously, the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Usman Kansong, explained that the government's plan to enforce a Presidential Regulation regarding Issuance Rights (Publisher Rights) was aimed at supporting quality journalism.

According to him, the regulation will require digital platforms, such as Google and Facebook, to ensure that the news content they distribute must support quality journalism, democratization, and the principles of diversity.

According to him, the government feels the need to roll out these rules because digital platforms have monopolized, monetized, and commercialized the news and content they distribute.

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Information assesses that news distributed through digital platforms has been deliberately selected based on their algorithm so that the available information becomes not diverse.
