Former FPI Spokesperson Munarman Says Pledge Loyalty To The Republic Of Indonesia At Salemba Prison

JAKARTA - Former spokesman for the Islamic Defenders Front, Munarman, who is also a convict of a criminal act of terrorism (napiter), pledged allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia at the Class IIA Salemba Correctional Institution (Lapas), Central Jakarta.

The head of the Class IIA Salemba Prison, Yosafat Rizanto, said that the pronunciation of the pledge of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia was the result of the deradicalization program of terrorist convicts who showed their loyalty to the Pancasila ideology.

"This is an activity of one of the requirements for inmates to get their rights. This activity is the result of a recommendation from BNPT. Those who conduct an assessment of Munarman's inmates to carry out the pledge of allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Yogyakarta at the Class IIA Salemba Prison, Central Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.

Yosafat explained that Munarman, who was sentenced to three years in prison, had previously stated that he was ready to pledge the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia when he entered the Salemba Prison.

He carried out three stages of coaching starting from counseling activities carried out by the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and Densus 88 as well as activities that mingled with other inmates.

"There are three stages. The first stage has been carried out in the previous place, then it will be continued in the Salemba Prison. After three months, only BNPT has agreed that the person concerned already has the right to pledge the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Yogyakarta.

Although reluctant to specify the assessment carried out by BNPT against Munarman, he explained that coaching followed the pledge of loyalty to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia for six months.

According to Yosafat, Munarman behaved well while in Salemba Prison so that it became one of the considerations to be able to pledge allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The number of terrorism convicts who have pledged allegiance to the Republic of Indonesia is 168 people or have reached 336 percent of the performance target of the Directorate General of Corrections in 2023.
