Mahfud MD Highlights Money Politics To Fraud During Elections

SURABAYA - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD highlighted the potential for money politics, fraud and hoaxes or fake news during the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

According to him, the vulnerability to these three issues has the potential not only to divide the unity of the Indonesian nation but also to reduce community participation in participating in the 2024 General Election.

"The point of vulnerability in the sense of the place is the same. There are no areas that are more vulnerable, but if the point in the sense of issues is money politics, fraud and especially hoaxes or fake news. There are only in that field that need to be anticipated," Mahfud MD told reporters in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.

However, Coordinating Minister Mahfud emphasized that in general Indonesia is ready to hold the 2024 General Election. For this reason, he appealed to the public not to hesitate to welcome and make the five-year democratic party a success.

Coordinating Minister Mahfud also felt the need to socialize by traveling, especially to densely populated areas in the country, where so far the people have always welcomed the holding of the General Election with great fanfare.

One of them went to East Java by holding a discussion forum with the theme "Realizing Clean Elections" which took place in Surabaya Tuesday morning.

"In the past, there were extraordinary concerns whether the people could participate? It turns out that the level of election participation in Indonesia, especially when measured by regional head elections or regional elections in 2020, is the largest not only in Indonesia's history, but throughout the world," he said.

Mahfud revealed that the level of participation of the Indonesian people during the 2020 Pilkada was recorded at 73 percent.

"That is the largest in history, which has never been achieved by any country in the world," he said.
