Not Only Blasphemy, Panji Gumilang Is Also Charged With The ITE Law

JAKARTA - The head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, has been named a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case. Panji Gumilang was charged with multiple articles.

"So in the title of the case all stated that they agreed to raise PG's brother as a suspect," said the Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Djuhandani Rahardjo Puro to reporters, Tuesday, August 1.

In the title of the case that also involved Propam, Itwasum, Divkum, and the Wasidik Bureau, Panji was charged with Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations. In this article, the threat of imprisonment is 10 years.

Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning amendments and Law number 11 of 2008 concerning ITE.

"With a threat of 6 years," he said.

Finally, Panji Gumilang was also charged with Article 156 A of the Criminal Code. In this article, the penalty is 5 years in prison.

However, investigators have not yet detained him. The reason is that Panji is still undergoing examination as a suspect.

"The person concerned is still undergoing examination as a suspect," said Djuhandani.

The alleged blasphemy committed by Panji Gumilang, namely calling the Qur'an an essay by the Prophet Muhammad.

As a result of this statement, Panji Gumilang is also suspected of spreading information that causes hatred or hostility between individuals and groups.
