RI-PNG Border Prone To Marijuana Smuggling And Stolen Goods

Jayapura - Jayapura City Police Deputy Chief AKBP Denny Herdiana admitted that the RI-Papua New Guinea (PNG) border is prone to smuggling, both marijuana and stolen goods. "It is true that the RI-PNG area is prone to smuggling, both from the Republic of Indonesia and PNG," said Deputy Chief of Police AKBP Denny in Jayapura, Antara, Wednesday, July 26. The items smuggled from PNG are marijuana-type narcotics, on the contrary, smuggled goods from the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, especially from Jayapura City in the form of stolen goods such as motorbikes, cellphones and air conditioning. Goods from the Jayapura City area were smuggled through footpaths or shortcuts at the border and sea lanes. From reports received, many motorbikes suspected of being stolen were circulating in the PNG area. "We will synergize with security forces at the border to be more active in conducting patrols around the border to minimize smuggling cases at the RI-PNG border," said AKBP Denny. Denny admitted that to strengthen security at the RI-PNG border, his party would add personnel at the Muara Tami Police. Muara Tami Police is the only Polsek in the Jayapura City Police who is on the border with PNG. "Hopefully, with the addition of personnel at the Muara Tami Police, it can suppress narcotics smuggling from PNG," hoped AKBP Denny.

Jayapura City Police are overseeing the North Jayapura Police, South Jayapura Police, Heran Police, Abepura Police and Muara Tami Police.
