Bawaslu Ready To Be Called By The DPR Regarding The Proposal To Postpone The 2024 Pilkada

Chairman of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja stated that he was ready to fulfill the DPR's invitation to explain the proposed postponement of elections to the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada).

"Oh ready, we will explain," said Bagja at the Bawaslu office, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 25.

He emphasized that he had never discussed the proposed postponement of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in an official forum. At that time, they were discussing various regional election problems that had to be resolved.

"This is a lot because it continues to be reported. Actually, if you look at the statement, it is clear that it was in a closed meeting, not an institution's official statement that the regional election should be postponed, it is not," he explained.

Bagja assessed that election organizers must learn from the previous election. The election security factor has been fulfilled at this time, so he has no problem with postponing the election.

"The postponement is not an institutional statement and also in the discussion it is not only a discussion about alternatives, but also a possibility that this could happen," continued Bagja.

Previously, on Tuesday (18/7), Commission II of the DPR stated that it would summon the Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) regarding the statement regarding the postponement of the 2024 Pilkada.

"Yes, of course, when we call, we will ask. We will definitely ask, first, the KPU (General Election Commission) was controversial as soon as we called and asked, finally it was clear," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Yanuar Prihatin.

Although he has not been able to confirm the exact response, Yanuar emphasized that this summons will take place in the near future.

"Yes, later when there is a schedule, members of the press will also be informed. I don't know, the schedule for the members' agreement is usually. Later we will allow it or not in the near future," he explained.

It is certainly not an easy matter to postpone the regional elections. Because, according to the man from the PKB faction, the stages of elections and regional elections have been designed long ago.

This means that if the schedule delay must also be changed by the laws and regulations.
