Case Rate In Indonesia Is High, Minister Of Health Asks For The Role Of Doctors In Pressing Mother's Death Rate

YOGYAKARTA - Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin invited the Indonesian Obstetrics Association (POGI) to increase the ability of all members to reduce the maternal mortality rate in Indonesia.

"I hope that POGI will always be enthusiastic in developing the knowledge and competence of obstetric and gynecologist specialists and be able to mobilize its members to continue to support efforts to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and babies in Indonesia," he said while giving a virtual speech at the XXVI/2023 POGI Annual Scientific Meeting (PIT) quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 25.

He said that currently the maternal mortality rate in Indonesia has decreased to 189 per 100 thousand live births and is predicted to reach the RPJMN target of 183 per 100 thousand live births in 2024.

Even though it has decreased, he said, the maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is still high, so it requires commitment and support from all parties, starting from the central and regional governments, professional organizations, development partners and all components of the nation in solving maternal health problems in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health continues to strive to improve maternal health by distributing ultrasound equipment to health centers, developing the capacity of general practitioners in the use of limited basic ultrasound, seeking childbirth in health facilities, and improving the delivery referral system.

"The health of the mother must be maintained before pregnancy, during pregnancy, during childbirth, and so on in raising their children so that they can give birth and raise healthy, intelligent, and good Indonesian children," said Budi.

The head of the Yogyakarta branch POGI, Irwan Taufiqurrarahman, stated that the POGI Annual Scientific Meeting in Yogyakarta was attended by 3,000 specialist obstetrics and gynecologists from all over Indonesia.

The meeting, which took place from July 24 to 26, 2023, had the theme "Recharge, Rebuild, Preparedness of Women's Health".

Through the meeting, he said, all POGI members increased competence and knowledge of how to prevent three main causes of maternal mortality in Indonesia.

Three aspects that cause maternal mortality are high bleeding, preeclampsia, and infection problems.
