The Lampung Agricultural Quarantine Center rejected 31 beef cattle from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) which were not equipped with a health certificate from their area of origin.
The person in charge of the Bakauheni Working Area (Wilker) for the Lampung Agricultural Quarantine, Jublyana, said that uncertified cows were found by officers during routine inspections at the Bakauheni Ferry Port, South Lampung on Wednesday, July 19.
"The cows were loaded in a fuso truck that got off through the Merak Port, Banten," said Jublyana in a statement received in Bandar Lampung, Thursday, July 20.
When questioned, the driver carrying 31 cows was unable to show a health certificate from the area of origin so that the officers immediately made arrests for further processing.
"From the results of the officer's examination, it is known that the cow is a cow from Bima, which was previously not sold out on the island of Java," he said.
Then, he continued, the cow would be taken to Sumatra Island to be sent to Jambi Province, but because when asked for information the driver did not have information, the livestock commodity was finally rejected to the area of origin.
"This action is a step to prevent and supervise the intas animal traffic to prevent the spread of disease into the Sumatra Region," he said.
Moreover, he continued, it is known that cows are livestock with a high risk in the transmission of Antraks, Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
"The perpetrator's actions have violated Article 88 junto Article 35 of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine, where every income or expenditure of carrier media, in this case agricultural products, must be equipped with an animal health certificate from their place of origin and reported to quarantine officers at the income site," he said.
