Mayor Of Surabaya Agrees That The PPDB Zoning System Is Evaluated

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi agreed with the proposal of the Association of Indonesian City Governments (Apeksi) which asked the central government to evaluate the New Student Admission zoning system (PPDB).

"So all regional heads at Apeksi time said that including this zoning should be evaluated. For what reason? This zoning is close, because we (regional governments) are not ready for all sub-districts there are elementary, junior high, high school schools," said Eri Cahyadi as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 18.

This was as revealed in the XVI APECTION National Working Meeting (Rakernas) in Makassar City on 10-14 July 2023.

Rules related to this zoning system as stated in Permendikbud Number 1 of 2021 concerning PPDB in Kindergarten, Elementary School, Junior High School, High School, and Vocational High School.

Mayor Eri also stated that not all of them are in the urban village, there are elementary, junior high, and public high schools. If it is guided by a zoning system, he said, children in this village will find it difficult to enter public schools in other areas. Because the child will be displaced by other prospective students whose domicile is closer to public schools.

"So if (the quota is made) 20 percent of the sub-district, 20 percent of the sub-district, is wrong, the loss is wrong. That was finally all the regional heads yesterday (Rakernas Apex) conveyed," he said.

Even Mayor Eri said that in the Apeksi National Working Meeting in Makassar, three Indonesian national figures also agreed to convey the issue of the PPDB zoning system. The three are Ganjar Pranowo, Prabowo Subianto, and Anies Baswedan.

"The three of them conveyed their concerns regarding zoning issues. Hopefully, this will have an overview of what will happen in the future," he said.

In other ways, Eri emphasized that there are guidelines related to domicile in the PPDB zoning system in the city of Surabaya, where the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) applies a minimum requirement of one year of domicile for the registration of PPDB zoning system.

"In Surabaya, like domicile, we already know that when he has not lived in Surabaya for a year, he cannot. That's why we see his KSK (Family Arrangement Card), whether he has a year or not, otherwise, he can't," he said.

Guidelines related to domicile in the City of Heroes were previously also implemented by the Surabaya City Government in determining the target list of Beneficiary Families (KPM) for Social Assistance (Bansos).

According to him, this was done because many residents outside the area who domiciled Surabaya ID cards only wanted to get intervention in assistance, including health services. In fact, he said, there is one house in Surabaya that is used for domicile up to 40 families (Family Cards).

"That's why now we are compiling data. Cleaning data is also included for (PPDB) zoning systems," he said.
