JAKARTA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country did not want to "expand the circle of war" with Israel but would respond "to a comparison" with any attack.

Pezeshkian delivered the statement during a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, June 16, according to the Iranian government-owned news agency.

Israel's "aggression" has killed civilians, scientists, and military leaders in Iran, Pezeshkian said.

"Iran did not start this war, but would respond proportionally to the level of attack," he continued.

Iran also said Iran's participation in nuclear negotiations with the United States only relies on stopping the Zionist regime's attacks on regional countries.

Erdogan told Pezeshkian Turkey was ready to play a facilitating role to help defuse the conflict and support the return of nuclear negotiations.
