JAKARTA - The Cilacap Navy Base (Lanal) under the Fleet II Command received reports from the public regarding the discovery of thousands of ammunition suspected of being the rest of World War (PD) II. Kadispen Koarmada II Marine Colonel (P) Widyo Sasongko said the report was received from two traditional fishermen who found thousands of ammunition. "Two traditional fishermen named Mukmin (35) and Surono (45) found thousands of ammunition at the PT SBI Pier, Bonsayur Village, Cilacap District, last Saturday," said Widyo in a written statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, July 16. Chronology of the discovery of thousands of ammunition, said Widyo, started with two fishermen who were diving at the location of the discovery. The two then found 12.7 mm and 7.62 mm caliber ammunition in the waters of the PT SBI pier. In addition, iron plates were also found around a sinking iron ship suspected of being a warship during World War II. The items that were collected from the findings were in the form of bullets in the condition of ammunition powder that had been dumped and between shells and separate projectiles. The report was then followed up on Sunday (16/7), Lanal Cilacap with the Puskopaska Underwater Documentary Team (UDT) carrying out security in the area where the findings were found.

"Security is to maintain the possibility of weapons or AMO remaining around the point of discovery and avoid misuse of local divers theft," said Widyo.
