Ridwan Kamil Invites Other Provinces To Optimize Electric Vehicle Subsidies

YOGYAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil invites other provinces in Indonesia to participate in optimizing the use of subsidies for purchasing electric vehicles as has been started in his region to suppress the effects of global warming.

"Indeed, this issue is not viral, yes, but the point is to prevent 'planological observers', 'classical observers'," said Ridwan Kamil after speaking at the Talkshow on Energy Transition at the Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 5.

According to Ridwan, in West Java the movement has started, among other things, by stopping the purchase of oil-fueled official vehicles (BBM) and replacing them with electric vehicles.

"West Java starting this year is no longer allowed to buy cars (dinas), only rent and rent are electric cars. I have provided compensation for 20 to 30 official electric cars, maybe West Java the first province," he said.

In West Java, a number of official workshops have now been established that can convert gasoline vehicles into electricity.

In addition to converting fuel vehicles to electricity, Kang Emil hopes that other pro-environmental movements including tree planting will continue to be echoed to suppress the impact of global warming.

"The role of the media is to be diligent in educating important things like this, don't let it go too far, we get flooded, get hot, get crop failure so that prevention, tree planting, pro-environmental actions must be viral," said Ridwan Kamil who is also the General Chair of the Association. He said the use of motorbikes or electric cars could contribute to reducing 7 percent of carbon emissions even though the main energy of PLN, which is mostly still sourced from coal.

"That has also reduced 7 percent of emissions, especially if the electricity source will be renewable, it will increase in reducing emissions," he said.

Kang Emil hopes that there will be no more polemics that will dispute the urgency of subsidies for electric vehicles and public transportation subsidies.

According to him, both electric vehicles and public transportation need to be subsidized.

"So both of them continue to be taken care of, multiplyed by using subsidies from the state budget and so on, but also the majority are still using motorbikes, private cars, so they must also be educated, incentively converting to electric vehicles," he said.
