The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police uncovered the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) with the internship program mode to Japan. This case involves polytechnics in West Sumatra (West Sumatra).

"TPPO with the mode of internship programs abroad which resulted in the victim as a student experiencing exploitation," said the Directorate of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro to reporters, Tuesday, June 27.

The disclosure of this TIP began with a report received by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. The report was made by ZA and FY who said that they and 9 other students were dispatched for internships but instead were employed as laborers.

"About 2019 the victim registered to take part in an internship program in Japan for one year and participated in the selection in the study and selection program at the campus or academic level, with the results of the selection that the victim passed to take part in the internship program in Japan which was decided by EH to be the director in one of the polytechnics for the 2018-2022 period," he said.

During one year they lived it. However, there are oddities they feel. Because they are required to work 14 hours from 08.00 to 22.00 without any holidays. In fact, only given 10-15 minutes to rest.

"Where in the regulation of Permendikbud Number 03 of 2020 in Article 19 which contains 1 sks for learning in the learning process in the form of hours should be 170 minutes per week per semester," said Djuhandhani.

In addition, they are also required to provide a contribution to the campus of 17,500 yen or equivalent to Rp. 2 million per month from the wages received of 50,000 yen equivalent to Rp. 5 million.

"After learning this, the victim contacted the polytechnic to be sent home, but the victim was threatened by a polytechnic if the polytechnic cooperation with the Japanese company was damaged, the victim would be dropped out (do)," said Djuhandhani.

As it turned out, from the results of the investigation, it was found that the polytechnic did not have a permit for the apprenticeship process abroad.

In addition, polytechnics in carrying out internship programs also do not have a apprenticeship curriculum abroad. Then, cooperate with foreign parties, in this case, companies in Tokyo-Japan without being noticed by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo.

With these findings, EH and G were named as TIP suspects. They are suspected of under Article 4 of Law (UU) Number 21 of 2007 concerning the eradication of TIP. With a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison for a minimum of 3 years in prison and a fine of at least Rp120 million and a maximum of Rp600 million.
