PERURI officially launched the "Red and White Chip Design Sandbox" at the Subono Mantofani Building, PERURI Jakarta Office. This strategic initiative is a tangible step in building technological independence while strengthening digital sovereignty.
The launch was carried out simultaneously by the President Director of PERURI, Teguh Arief Indratmoko, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto; Chief Technology Officer of BPI Danantara, Sigit Puji Santosa; Deputy Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP-BUMN), Tedi Bharata; Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Faisol Riza; and the Rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T.
Currently, almost all of the public's daily digital services, ranging from electronic passports, identity cards, to payment cards, are heavily dependent on a crucial micro-component called a chip to maintain data security. However, the availability of talent and the ability to design chips in the country is still very limited due to the high cost of work devices and the lack of access to practical facilities. In fact, in order to support the success of government programs in realizing national chip independence, a large supply of skilled talent is needed.
As a state-owned enterprise that has always carried out the mandate to maintain the sovereignty and authenticity of the nation's strategic assets, PERURI is now expanding this role into the high technology realm. Through the Red and White Chip Design Sandbox, PERURI cuts the initial barrier (barrier to entry) by providing a secure digital test space. This platform allows anyone to learn, experiment, and design chips for free just through a web browser.
The President Director of PERURI, Teguh Arief Indratmoko, said that this step is a manifestation of the company's continued commitment to safeguarding state sovereignty from within the country.
"The launch of the Red and White Chip Design Sandbox is a strategic step to strengthen digital sovereignty and national security. Through the design of chips independently, PERURI is committed to providing the highest security standards to protect national documents and data from cyber threats, while encouraging foreign exchange efficiency and strengthening Indonesia's position in the global semiconductor ecosystem," said Teguh.
Continuing this, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Brian Yuliarto, also welcomed this strategic collaboration as a major boost for the national education and research ecosystem.
"The mastery of semiconductor technology is an essential foundation for driving economic growth while maintaining national sovereignty. This Sandbox initiative must be executed immediately with quick and collaborative steps. We hope that this digital test space is able to stimulate the enthusiasm of students and young generations to diligently experiment, for the realization of national semiconductor sovereignty in the future," said Brian.
From the perspective of the national industrial roadmap, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Faisol Riza, emphasized that the development of semiconductors is a tangible manifestation of national independence.
"Chips are no longer just industrial products, but strategic commodities that determine global dominance. In line with the steps of the Ministry of Industry in designing a roadmap (roadmap) for the semiconductor ecosystem - including the plan to build a national AI Data Center that will absorb the need for chips massively - we hope this platform can hit the competitiveness of the Indonesian electronics industry on the global stage," said Faisol.
In line with this spirit of innovation, Deputy Head of BP-BUMN, Tedi Bharata, highlighted the importance of this facility as a measurable validation space while reminding the importance of governance.
"The sandbox facility is a crucial foundation in creating innovations that have a wide impact, such as the success of the national digital financial ecosystem. This Chip Design Sandbox will be a Proof of Concept (PoC) space to test the value of innovation on a measurable basis. We at BP-BUMN are committed to continue to monitor the governance of PERURI strictly, ensuring that this strategic project is protected and runs on the right track sustainably," said Tedi.
