RIAU - A member of the Riau Islands Provincial DPRD (Kepri), Rudy Chua, highlighted the alarming condition of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang City. Apart from the lack of study rooms, the condition of the school in some buildings was badly damaged.
From observations in the field, he said, with the number of students around 1,800 people, SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang needed 52 learning rooms. While the number is available, only 35 study rooms.
"This means that SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang still lacks 17 classrooms," said Rudy Chua in Tanjungpinang, Antara, Wednesday, June 21.
Due to limited study space, over the years students at SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang have implemented a moving learning pattern according to empty or available places. For example in sports fields, laboratories, to classrooms or on vacant land.
This condition, he continued, greatly disrupts children's learning concentration. Several study rooms also suffered minor to severe damage, so they must be repaired or improved immediately.
"The solution is to overcome this problem, by asking for budget assistance from the central government," said Rudy Chua.
He continued to explain that SMK Negeri 1 had been proposed to carry out revitalization to the central government through the Ministry of PUPR. The proposal was submitted by a member of the DPR RI for the Electoral Region (Dapil) of Riau Islands Province, Cen Sui Lan.
According to him, in principle, the school revitalization budget has been approved and will be carried out as soon as possible by the Ministry of PUPR through the Riau Islands Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center.
"Initial estimates, it takes a budget of around Rp. 40 billion for development activities, rehabilitation of study rooms, improvement of buildings and other facilities at SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Principal (Wapeksek) for Facilities and Infrastructure of SMK Negeri 1 Tanjungpinang, Mardiana, said that the school building had never been revitalized since it was first built in 1956 (previously called High School for Upper Economy or SMEA).
He said that currently several study rooms were badly damaged, one of which was a laboratory room that could not be used at all.
"There is only one building that was revitalized in 2020, through the special allocation fund (DAK) of the State Budget. Namely, the construction of a two-story office building," said Mardiana.
