The SAR team evacuated passengers of fishing boats that had engine failures in the waters of Komodo Island, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Safe passengers, only one wants to be evacuated to the port, three others choose to stay for engine repairs," said Head of the Maumere Search and Rescue Office, Mexianus Bekabel, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.

The incident began when a fishing boat carrying four passengers departed from Sape Island to Mules Island in Manggarai, NTT at 13.00 WITA.

However, when the ship crossed around Komodo Island at 17.00 WITA, a high wave hit the ship, resulting in engine failure.

Based on information received by the West Manggarai SAR Post, the rescue team numbered three people along with other joint teams moving to the scene.

Now a passenger is being evacuated to Labuan Bajo Port, while the Joint SAR team continues to monitor other passengers who are still carrying out ship repairs.

"We will continue to monitor it until it docks on Mules Island," he said.
