19 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine Courier Demanded The Death Penalty At The Medan District Court

The Public Prosecutor of the Medan Kejari during a trial at the Medan District Court (PN), North Sumatra, demanded the death penalty of the defendant Candra Saputra alias Carles, a resident of Deli Serdang, a courier of 19 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

"It was read Tuesday (13/6) with the death penalty, with Chief Judge Lucas Sahabat Duha," said Public Prosecutor Trian Adhitya Izmail as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 14.

He said the article stipulated against the defendant Candra Saputra was proven to have violated Article 114 Paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"The aggravating thing is that it does not follow the government's program in eradicating drugs and damaging the nation's generation. While there is no mitigating factor," he said.

After hearing the prosecutor's demands, the panel of judges postponed the trial next week in the defendant's defense (pledoi) event.

In the indictment, starting on October 24, 2022, the defendant met with A (DPO) in front of the shophouse. Then the defendant was offered to carry methamphetamine with a salary of Rp. 50 million.

The defendant and A headed to R (DPO)'s house in the Neighborhood 14 area and discussed the work. R told the defendant the job was his own responsibility if he was caught.

The next day, at around 08.00 WIB, the defendant arrived at the coconut ice maker's place and waited for R. Then the defendant and R headed to Medan Merdeka Square. Then the police officers secured the defendant, while R became a DPO.
