MANADO - Karangetang Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi said the distance from lava avalanches reached 1,500 meters.

"The lava fall led to Batuawang River with a sliding distance of between 700-1,500 meters," said Head of PGA Karangetang Post, Yudia P Tatipang in an observation report at 12.00 - 18.00 WITA in Manado as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

Yudia explained, visually, the mountain with a height of 1,784 meters above sea level was foggy, while crater smoke was observed to be white with a thin to moderate intensity and a height of 50-100 meters above the crater peak.

In that period, 37 avalanches were recorded with an amplitude of between four and 18 millimeters of 35-105 seconds.

"Tremor continuous (microtremor) recorded with an amplitude of 0.25-0.5 millimeters, dominantly 0.25 millimeters," he said.

Yudia hopes that people who live on slopes and around the river that originates from the top of the crater remain alert to the potential for hot clouds to fall.

The PGA post, he said, continues to coordinate with the district government to determine the steps to be taken regarding the activities of Mount Karangetang.

"We invite the public to comply with the hazard radius that has been recommended by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation or PVMBG," he said.
