The KPK Considers Lukas Enembe Not Cooperative At The Initial Session Of Allegations Of Bribery And Gratification

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the inactive Papua Governor Lukas Enembe was uncooperative when attending the trial for reading the indictment today. The assessment emerged after he admitted to being sick even though he was initially able to attend the trial.

"We actually regret the attitude of the defendant, which we value, I don't think it is cooperative," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Monday, June 12.

Lukas is certain to be able to account for his actions. Moreover, the anti-corruption commission has asked for an opinion from a doctor.

"We also have data related to the health concerned. Tee masuk, the opinion of the doctor who did the examination," said Ali.

In the future, the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) will show the health condition to the Jakarta Corruption Court Panel of Judges. Thus, an assessment can be given directly.

"As for his attitude (Lukas Enembe, ed) in court, it will be his own value for the panel of judges or the team of KPK prosecutors when carrying out the prosecution process or compiling a letter of demand," he said.

As previously reported, the inaugural trial for reading the charges of alleged bribery and gratification that ensnared Lukas Enembe was postponed by the Jakarta Corruption Court Panel of Judges. He admitted that he was sick so he could not go to trial.

"Are you in good health right now? Brother Lukas, are you in good health? Are you healthy?," asked Judge Rianto Adam Pontoh in the courtroom.

"It hurts," said Lukas briefly when presented online from the KPK Rutan at the KPK branch of the KPK Red and White Building.

Lukas' statement was also confirmed by his lawyer, Petrus Bala Pattyona. He said his client's tension was high so he could not attend the trial.

Due to this condition, the judge decided that the trial was postponed. "It will resume on Monday, June 19, 2023. The defendant will return to detention and take care of his health," said Judge Rianto.
