JAKARTA - Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Abdullah Azwar Anas supports the strengthening of the National Police's institutions to deal with TIP through the establishment of a special directorate, as President Joko Widodo also pays serious attention to this.
"President Joko Widodo really cares about handling criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO), so the National Police institution needs to be strengthened by the presence of a special directorate," Anas said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 8.
He conveyed this when meeting with the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the PAN-RB Ministry Office, Jakarta.
Furthermore, he said, the PAN-RB Ministry immediately sent President Joko Widodo a draft presidential regulation (perpres) related to the special directorate at the National Police who handled TIP as well as the crime of women and children (TPPA).
"We discussed it with the National Police Chief and earlier everything was clear. We immediately sent the draft Presidential Decree to the President," said Anas.
According to Anas, the formation of the directorate is important because data from the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) shows that the number of Indonesian citizens who died due to TIP reached more than 1,900 people.
