After Being Arrested By The Bali Police, Canadian Citizen Stephane Gagnon Made A Report To Submit A Pretrial

JAKARTA - The Bali Police arrested Canadian citizen Stephane Gagnon for allegedly being on the Interpol Red Notice list some time ago. Now, Stephane through his attorney reports about the alleged extortion of police officers to file a pretrial for his arrest.

"We found strong evidence, finally we made evidence of extortion reports, the Bali Police have received the report. At the Bali Police press conference, we said that it had been processed yesterday, but we just reported it today," said Stephane's lawyer, Pahrur Dalimunthe, to reporters in South Jakarta, Tuesday, June 6.

According to Pahrur Dalimunthe, the report was made by his party regarding the alleged extortion case against his client. Moreover, his party has proof of transfer when his client sends up to Rp1 billion to a number of people.

"To be reported from our report, the midle man, the private party who brokered the case, he had relations everywhere at that time and our client considered it powerful. That's why he (the client) was afraid," he said.

"From the beginning we conveyed it to clients, open as wide as possible. And the client agreed. Now this client conveys all the evidence of the conversations he has, proof of transfer, and communication in WA is clear, there are even video recordings when the markus (case broker says), "Come on, I have this acquaintance," he explained.

Meanwhile, Boris Tampubolon, also Stephane's attorney, explained that his party had submitted a pretrial application to the Bali District Court for the arrest of his client.

"Now it has been revealed, this process begins with case brokers, beginning with extortion, starting with unlawful acts so we ask that this extradition process be reviewed. Is it true that this person deserves to be extradited or not, is it true that the Canadian government asked for our client (extracted) or rather someone else, or did not ask at all," he explained.

He added that the pretrial was also to test whether Red Notice could be used as a basis for arresting and extradited his client even though his identity and passport number were different.

"Our client is a good person, he works and has a business here, has a family here, is not strange here, so what he wants to pursue is to extradite this person. In the red notice, it is also clear that there is no order to arrest him," he said.
