JAKARTA - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched an electronic visa system (e-Visa) program for Hajj and Umrah purposes, residence permits and visits to the country for Indonesian citizens.

"The replacement of a sticker visa to an electronic visa is in accordance with the instructions of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia," said Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia Faisal Abdullah H. Amodi as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25.

Faisal said the program was also a directive from Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and was in line with Saudi Arabia's 2030 Vision.

The issuance of electronic visas, he continued, aims to improve consular service in Saudi Arabia, as well as provide facilities for those who want to take advantage of the program, including Indonesian citizens.

The advantage of the e-Visa program is that visa applications can be made via email.

"With a system like this, Alhamdulillah, the authorities can issue around 25,000 Hajj visas per day and this is a progress," said Faisal.

Saudi Arabia has launched its e-Visa program in several countries and this year the program will be launched in seven countries, including Indonesia.

"The implementation of e-Visa in Indonesia has started today," he said.

Faisal said the implementation of the e-Visa program in Indonesia reflected the attention and commitment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to continue to increase cooperation between the two countries.
