The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, said that the restoration of the Kesawan Old Town area, which is currently under construction, will be completed in October 2023.

"Our target is no later than October 2023, the revitalization of the Old City of Kesawan is complete, including the Old Fish Tax and Warenhuis Building," Bobby said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 4.

According to him, the restoration is to restore the function of historical heritage areas in Medan City.

The restoration carried out by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is expected to develop the economy in the area filled with historical buildings.

The mayor explained that the narrowing of roads in the area aims to increase the value of trade transactions, because the Old City of Kesawan is a commercial area.

The solution to overcome the narrowing, especially Jalan Ahmad Yani, is the main link between southern Medan and northern Medan which will be moved to Jalan Irian and Jalan Jawa this year by constructing a tunnel.

"That's why, this year we will build there to increase the volume of road users. God willing, in the near future a month or two months we will start working on it," he explained.

If the tunnel is completed, the economy in the Kesawan Old Town area will be more lively with traffic flow from southern Medan to the north not being disturbed.

The mayor also said that the Medan City Government would reduce road intersections by using traffic lights as an effort to overcome congestion in Medan City.

"We will reduce eight intersection points, including Jalan HM Yamin. Moreover, we will build aunderpass, thereby reducing intersections that use traffic lights," said Bobby.

Georgy Melkov, Country Manager inDrive, said in his remarks that his party will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to actively engage or improve the life of drivers.

"With the motto 'People Driven', we are committed to actively improving service quality to support community mobility and the relevance of online transportation platforms," he said.
