Tulungagung Prison Prisoners Smuggle Methamphetamine In Pasta Gigi

TULUNGAGUNG - The PRISONer of the Class IIB Penitentiary (Lapas) Tulungagung, East Java, thwarted an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine into a correctional environment through a visitor who disguised himself as a prisoner's family.

According to the Head of Class IIB Tulungagung Prison R. Budiman P. Kesumah, the disclosure of the case began with the suspicion of officers against toothpaste brought by a visitor with the initials GB (27) from Kediri.

"It happened on Thursday (27/4) yesterday during the visiting hours of the inmates. There was one visitor who was caught carrying a number of items needed by drug convicts, and after being examined there were items that we should be suspicious of," Budiman said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 28.

He said GB initially looked quite good at his efforts to smuggle methamphetamine because the white drug powder was put in a neatly repackaged toothpaste container.

However, officers who already have expertise in detecting smuggled goods examine them one by one, including opening a toothpaste cap containing methamphetamine which looks like the factory's packaging has been tidied up.

"After we checked and dismantled it, it turned out that it contained 10.49 grams of methamphetamine," he said.

Following up on the findings of methamphetamine by the Tulungagung prison officer, he said, the LP had coordinated with the Drug Investigation Unit of the Tulungagung Police.

"Our commitment is clear and does not play games in eradicating drugs, collaborating with law enforcement officers (APH), in this case the National Police for handling cases," Budiman explained.
