TANJUNGPINANG - JM (49) and AW (56) who are residents of North Bintan District were arrested by the Bintan Police, Riau Islands Police (Kepri). Both are dealers and players of sijie gambling.

"We have succeeded in uncovering the criminal act of sijie gambling in a continuous operation in 2023 which is currently underway," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bintan Police, AKP Muhammad Darma Ardiyaniki, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 7.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit revealed that the arrests of the two perpetrators began with public information regarding the sijie gambling in Lancang Kuning Village, Bintan Regency.

After that, he said, a joint team from the Bintan Police Satreskrim together with the North Bintan Police conducted an investigation and it was found that the perpetrator JM was acting as a sijie dealer at his residence, Wednesday (5/4).

The police immediately secured JM along with evidence in the form of a record book on the recapitulation of the Sijie gambling game, small paper that reads the numbers of the couple, the payment money for the number pair, and one unit of JM's cellphone at his house.

"Furthermore, development was carried out and AW was found to be the number installer for JM perpetrators," he said.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit emphasized that the two perpetrators were arrested as an effort to suppress and eradicate community diseases such as gambling. This is expected to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators, so that Bintan Regency can be free from gambling or other public diseases that can be troubling.

Currently, the two suspects are still being investigated intensively at the Bintan Police for further investigation.

"The actions of the two perpetrators violate Article 303 of the Criminal Code with a maximum threat of 10 years in prison," he asserted.

His party also appealed to the public if they received information about actions that violated the law, especially regarding gambling, to immediately report to the nearest police station or through Bhabinkamtibmas to be followed up.

The police confirmed that the identity of the reporter would be kept secret in the hope that the Bintan Regency area would be free from gambling.
