Potential Causing Riots, West Jakarta Satpol PP Prohibits SOTR

WEST JAKARTA - The West Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) has appealed to all residents not to have Sahur On The Road (SOTR) during the fasting month to prevent brawls.

"I have ordered all Satpol Heads in each sub-district to urge, tell residents not to do SOTR," said the Head of the West Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit, Agus Irwanto, Friday, March 24.

SOTR is a traveling activity that is generally carried out by a group of young people. In this activity, the youth group distributed food to residents in need at dawn.

According to Agus, the mobile sahur and SOTR activities often trigger brawls in residents' settlements.

This is because it has the potential to bring together two groups of youths which often lead to fights.

Because of that, he said, the role of the community is needed to prevent these activities from happening during the fasting month.

Agus also admitted that it would be difficult to prevent brawls if you only relied on Satpol PP officers or the police.

"It takes cooperation and public awareness that SOTR activities and so on are dangerous. If you only rely on us, it will be difficult," said Agus.

Therefore, Agus also appealed to the sub-district Satpol PP to partner with community leaders to urge residents to always be orderly during Ramadan.

Apart from that, Agus admitted that his party also sent officers to patrol the area to anticipate brawls.

It was recorded that there were 350 Satpol PP personnel at the city and regional levels who were dispatched to guard with police and military officers at security posts in each sub-district.
