JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III DPR RI Adies Kadir was elected as Chair of the Working Committee (Panja) to discuss changes to the four revisions of Law Number 24 of 2003 concerning the Constitutional Court (MK).

Adies was elected at a Commission III working meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD led by the Chairman of Commission III DPR RI Bambang Wuryanto, Wednesday 15 February.

"So from the table, the leaders suggested that the person holding the committee be Mr. Adies Kadir. Do you agree?" asked Pacul, the nickname for the Chairman of Commission III. "Agreed," replied the members of Commission III who were present at the meeting.

Previously, Member of Commission III DPR RI Habiburokhman explained four important materials in the fourth revision or amendment to Law Number 24 of 2003 concerning the Constitutional Court proposed by the DPR RI.

"Several important points in the fourth amendment to the Constitutional Court Law, among others, first, the minimum age requirement for constitutional judges. Second, evaluation of constitutional judges," said Habiburokhman.

The third and fourth materials to be discussed in the revision of the Constitutional Court Law are issues regarding the membership of the Constitutional Court Honorary Council (MKMK) and the abolition of the provision for transitional terms of office for the chairman and deputy chairman of the Constitutional Court.

On the same occasion, Habiburokhman also conveyed the reasons behind the DPR RI proposing to revise the Constitutional Court Law.

"The background to this law change is because there are several provisions that were canceled by the Constitutional Court Decision Number 96/PUU-XVIII/2020 and the Constitutional Court Decision Number 56/PUU-XX/2022," he said.

Next, he conveyed that the revision of the Constitutional Court Law was aimed at adapting these regulations to the legal needs of society and constitutional life in Indonesia.

In the development of the implementation of the Constitutional Court Law, these regulations are no longer in accordance with the development of the legal needs of the community and current constitutional life.

"Several provisions in Law Number 24 of 2003 concerning the Constitutional Court, as amended several times, most recently by Law Number 7 of 2020 concerning the Third Amendment to Law 24 of 2003 concerning the Constitutional Court are no longer in accordance with developments in the legal needs of society and constitutional life," said Habib.

On the same occasion the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, representing the government, said that his party had sent a Problem Inventory List (DIM).

"We really hope that the bill can be discussed soon in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," he said.
