Illegal Racing Marak In OKU South Sumatra, Police Improved Night Patrols

JAKARTA - Police have stepped up night patrols to prevent illegal racing that has occurred on a number of traffic sections at the Ogan Komering Ulu Police (OKU) South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi).

"This was done following the many illegal racing actions even though they have often been brought under control," said OKU Police Chief, AKBP Arif Harsono in Baturaja, OKU, Thursday, February 9, as reported by Antara.

Therefore, the Police Chief assessed that night patrols need to be improved to minimize racing actions carried out by teenagers in the area.

In the patrol, his party deployed dozens of personnel from the OKU Police Traffic Unit to search a number of areas in Baturaja City which were allegedly used as illegal racing arenas.

Members in the field will take firm action for people caught speeding on the highway using motorbikes to provide a deterrent effect.

"We will increase the patrol tonight ahead and during the holy month of Ramadan 1444 Hijriyah," he said.

In fact, he said, during Ramadan later his party will alert joint personnel in a number of areas prone to crime, including illegal racing, to provide a sense of security and comfort for Muslims during fasting.

"Because the moment after dawn is often colored by illegal racing at several points in the Baturaja City area, so it must be anticipated," he said.

Previously, in the early hours of Sunday, February 5, dozens of vehicles were secured by members of the OKU Police Traffic Unit for being involved in illegal racing on Jalan Lintas Tengah Sumatra, Simpang 4 Lampung Merah Air Paoh, East Baturaja District.

The average vehicle that was secured was not in accordance with the provisions, such as using a Brong exhaust and the driver did not complete the driving conditions.

"We have secured 26 vehicles belonging to illegal racing actors to provide a deterrent effect," he said.
