JAKARTA - Foreign Minister (Menlu) Retno Marsudi said ASEAN would still refer to the five-point consensus (5PC) to help Myanmar get out of its political crisis.

Furthermore, Retno said that Indonesia's consistent position to encourage the implementation of the 5PC was in accordance with the mandate of ASEAN leaders.

"As the President said, Indonesia's position is consistent because this has been the decision of ASEAN leaders to continue to implement the five-point consensus," he told reporters, Sunday, January 29.

However, continued Retno, what can help Myanmar is the Myanmar nation itself. He said ASEAN only helped resolve the crisis.

"But, once again, the people who can help Myanmar are the Myanmar people themselves. ASEAN helps, wants to help them," he said.

"They are a sovereign country, so we always say that we are ready to help as a family, we are ready to help and friends know that Myanmar's history is very complex, but we as a family we are ready to help," he continued.

Although the Myanmar crisis will continue to be discussed in ASEAN meetings throughout Indonesia's chairmanship, Retno ensures that this issue will not hinder the ASEAN development process itself.

"Our obligation is to also help Myanmar get out of its political crisis, but we don't want Myanmar's issue to status all ongoing processes in ASEAN. We want to make sure this process continues," he said.
