JAKARTA - Russia launched tank destroyer Abrams and Leopard 2 in response to the decisions of the United States and European countries that would send Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Former director general of Russia's federal space agency Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said the robot, named the Russian-made Marker, was able to hit a US-made Abrams tank and a German-made Leopard tank. Rogozin explained that Marker has a target catalog in the form of visible and infrared light spectra, and the system will help Marker to automatically detect enemy military hardware. “For example, shortly after the delivery of Abrams and Leopard tanks to Ukrainian troops begins, Markers will be equipped with appropriate electronic images to detect and destroy US and German tanks with anti-tank missiles,” Rogozin told Sputnik, quoted via Antara, Friday, January 27. Marker, according to him, can also prioritize enemy targets when at the forefront. The former head of Roscosmos said four Marker robots would be delivered to the Donbass area in February. He hopes Marker can operate soon after going through a series of trials. Rogozin's remarks came after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced Berlin' decision to send 14 Leopard 2 tank units to Ukraine, which US President Joe Biden announced that Washington would also send 31 Abrams tanks to Kiev. The Russian Embassy in Germany warned that the dangerous “ decision (Berlin) could push the conflict in Ukraine to a new deadlock level". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also stated that the US and Western countries' decisions have shown their direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly warned the US and its allies that sending military aid to Kiev would prolong the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry said member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were "playing fire" by supplying weapons to Kiev, and any military procession to Ukraine would be targeted by Russia.
