Earthquakes In South Java Waters Can Be Felt In Jakarta

JAKARTA - An earthquake occurred in the waters south of West Java, exactly 151 kilometers southwest of Garut Regency, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 23.29 WIB.

The 6.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred at the point of 8.42 South Latitude 107.26 East Longitude with a depth of 10 kilometers was felt as far as Jakarta.

Sukabumi, Tasikmalaya, Bandung, Garut, and Bogor areas are the areas with the largest shocks. BMKG noted that the intensity of the shocks in the five areas was at level IV or mild.

Then, other areas affected by the shock are Tangerang and Jakarta with level III or weak intensity.

BMKG informed that the earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. However, BMKG appealed to remain careful with the potential for aftershocks.
