Mount Ibu Erupts, Volcanic Ash Keeps 3.5 Kilometers

JAKARTA - Mount Ibu, located northwest of Halmahera Island, North Maluku, experienced an eruption and ejected volcanic ash as high as 3.5 kilometers from the top of the volcano with the stratovolcano type. "The eruption occurred at 00.37 WIT, Sunday, April 28, 2024. The column height was observed to be approximately 3,500 meters above the peak," said Mount Mother Observation Post Officer Axl Roeroe, as reported by Antara. Roeroe said the column of ash appeared gray to black with thick intensity to the west. The eruption was recorded through a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 206 seconds.

"All parties should maintain a conducive atmosphere in society, not spread false narratives, and not be provoked by issues with unclear sources," said Roeroe.
