JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) will add traffic signs at the Cikampek Toll Road 'Purwakarta' Padalarang (Cipularang) vulnerable points.

This follows a series of accidents involving 17 vehicles at KM 92+200 Cipularang Toll Road from Bandung to Jakarta on Monday afternoon, November 11.

"Due to the accident, the Ministry of Public Works provides several recommendations for handling, namely the addition and adjustment of signs, either in the form of appeals, prohibitions or warnings. Especially at locations before derivatives at double bends and at locations before construction work," said Director General of Highways Rachman Arief Dienaputra while accompanying the Commission V DPR RI Specific Working Visit to review the accident location, as quoted from the upload of the official Instagram account of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT), Monday, November 18.

In addition, it is also necessary to premark (edge marks) on the shoulder of the road after the reconstruction is carried out, as well as adjust the maximum operational speed limit from 80 kilometers per hour to 60 kilometers per hour at KM 90-100.

Meanwhile, the complete facilities and infrastructure at the accident site are claimed to be adequate.

There are toll road traffic signs and an emergency stopping route is available due to road conditions at the accident site.

The geometric condition of the toll road with a vertical alignment of 7.8-8 percent from KM 93-92, road shoulder superelevation 3.5 percent, and there is a multiplier bend with a twist radius of 405 meters and a long arch of transition between twists of 208 meters.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Lasarus highlighted that it is necessary to supervise over-dimensional over-loading (ODOL) vehicles.

"Regardless of the main causes being handled by the Korlantas Polri, we see not only human error, weather or vehicle conditions, but also facilities and infrastructure, infrastructure and maybe ODOL vehicle supervisors," he said.
