BOGOR - The Bogor Regency Government, West Java, recorded a 1.58 percent decrease in the number of unemployed in its area in the past year.

Head of the Regional Research and Development Planning Agency (Bappedalitbang) of Bogor Regency, Suryanto Putra in Cibinong, Bogor, explained that there was a reduction in the number of unemployed by 32,439 people in his area, from 12.22 percent or 340,604 people at the end of 2021, now to 10.64 percent or 308,165 people.

"The unemployment rate decreased from 14.29 percent in 2020 to 12.22 percent in 2021, then it fell again to 10.64 percent at the end of 2022," said Suryanto, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 26.

The reason is, there was a surge in the unemployment rate in Bogor Regency to reach 5.23 percent, from 9.06 percent in 2019 to 14.29 percent at the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic to 2020.

Suryanto added that economic growth in his area increased significantly after being free from the disruption of the COVID 19 pandemic.

"Seeing economic growth in Bogor Regency shows a significant increase after the COVID 19 pandemic hit," he said.

He explained that based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the economic growth of Bogor Regency is now at 5.20 percent, after falling to minus 1.77 percent due to the 2020 pandemic and rising again in 2021 to 3.55 percent.

Then, the purchasing power of the people of Bogor Regency has also increased in the last two years. In 2020 it was IDR 10.31 million per year per person, to IDR 10.41 million per year per person in 2021, and again increased to IDR 10.86 million per year per person.

According to him, the increase in economic growth and people's purchasing power has decreased the poverty rate in their regions from 8.13 percent in 2021 to 7.73 percent by the end of 2022.

"Even in 2022 (the poverty rate) of Bogor Regency is in 11th place out of 27 cities/regencies throughout West Java," said Suryanto.

The poverty rate in Bogor Regency is below the average poverty rate in West Java Province which was recorded at 8.06 percent.
