IPW Highlights The Handling Of The Police On The 1812 Demo Action

JAKARTA - Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) highlighted the security of the 1812 demonstration demanding the release of FPI Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab. Polri is advised to always prioritize persuasive efforts.

"The police in maintaining public order in monitoring the FPI demonstration remain persuasive," said IPW Presidium Neta S. Pane to VOI, Friday, December 18.

By promoting dialogue and non-violence, said Neta, this can prevent chaos. Because the demonstration was called Neta, it was motivated by the feeling of disappointment of the masses who demanded the release of Rizieq Shihab.

"So that in the demonstration there will be no clashes that harm the community and both parties," he said.

Meanwhile, IPW also appealed to the demonstrators not to commit anarchism. Even though they demand justice, the protesters must be calm and continue to promote dialogues to solve problems.

"IPW hopes that in conveying its aspirations, the FPI masses will stay within the corridors of the law and promote dialogue," he said.

There were also a number of elements of society who were members of the National Anti-Communist Alliance (ANAK) of the Republic of Indonesia to hold demonstrations around the State Palace. They demanded the release of Rizieq Shihab, who is currently detained in connection with the alleged case of sedition and violation of health protocols.

A total of 12,500 joint personnel from the TNI-Polri, and the Regional Government (Pemda) of DKI Jakarta were deployed to guard the 1812 demonstration around the State Palace, Central Jakarta.

However, 5,000 joint personnel were deployed. Meanwhile, the remaining 7,500 were alerted to face uncontrollable situations.

This demonstration demands the release of Rizieq Shihab, who is currently detained in connection with an alleged case of sedition and violation of health protocols. However, not all officers were immediately deployed.
