The Body Of Husband Of The Wife Who Died In The Flood In Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Has Finally Been Found

NTT - The combined SAR team finally found Atrohanis Malapu (40), a victim of being dragged away by the flood waters of the Bainel River on Sunday, November 20.

His wife, Theresia Teti (40), who was also swept away by the river in Kalali Village, Fatuleu Barat Kupang District, was found earlier on Monday 14 November evening.

"The bodies found in the waters of Semau Island are the bodies of flood victims from Kalali Village who have been reported missing since November 14, 2022," said Kupang Police Chief AKBP FX Irwan Arianto when contacted, quoted from Antara, Monday, November 21.

Irwan said the initial discovery of Atrohanis was based on fishermen's reports to the joint SAR team. The fisherman found a body floating on Semau Island while looking for fish on Sunday, November 20 at around 14.30.

He explained in more detail, after seeing the bodies floating a number of fishermen immediately contacted Polairud to evacuate the victims.

The identification process was carried out after Polairud together with Basarnas Kupang evacuated to Kupang Titus Ully Hospital because the decomposed condition of the bodies could not be recognized.

Atrohanis Malapu and Theresia Teti are a married couple who were swept away by the currents of the Bainel River.

Both were lost in a flood while crossing the Bainel River after returning from gardening on Monday, November 14 afternoon. At that time, the area was drenched in heavy rain which caused the Bainel River to overflow.

In that incident, local residents found Theresia Teti dead, while her husband, Atrohanis Malapu, was declared missing.
