South Korea Makes Hospitals Out Of Containers To Respond To Spike In COVID-19 Cases

JAKARTA - South Korea (South Korea) is entering the third wave of COVID-19 transmission. Authorities responded by building a makeshift hospital in Seoul. The hospital is made of containers.

Launching Reuters on Thursday, December 10, the construction of the hospital was carried out as a measure to overcome the insufficient capacity of the available hospitals. The high rate of COVID-19 transmission worries the South Korean government.

This situation has also forced health authorities to increase the location for COVID-19 tests to 150 points across Seoul. "We are in a critical situation where our resistance efforts and the capacity of our medical system can reach their limits soon."

"Above all we will secure a care center and adequate hospital beds for critical cases so that they can receive the right treatment at the right time," Health Minister Par Neung-hoo told a meeting.

Park also said he would mobilize all available resources. Seoul, a region with a population of 10 million, has only 3 percent of beds for severe disease and 17 percent for mild and moderate patients.

So far South Korea has confirmed 39,432 cases of COVID-19 transmission. Among them, there were 556 cases died.
