Minister Of Environment And Forestry: Blue Economy Becomes A New Challenge

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya said the blue economy (blue economy) would be a new challenge in the future.

"First, I am very happy with all of you in the maintenance of the 2022 coast in Tangerang Regency which discusses many important agendas. The blue economy will be a challenge in the future," said Minister Siti when opening the agenda of the 2022 PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Meeting Summit in Tangerang Regency, Banten, Wednesday, October 26.

He conveyed that the concept of a marine economy or a blue economy is something that encourages economic growth because the maintenance of the marine ecosystem is a fundamental effort for the survival of coastal communities.

"The concept of a blue economy is something that encourages economic growth, strengthens marine ecosystems, the foundations of the blue economy are inclusive resilience and the sea, clean seas and healthy marine ecosystems," he said as quoted by Antara.

He said, seen in the dynamics of the response to the issue of carbon emissions, the business world and society have high hopes to contribute to efforts to reduce emissions.

However, he said, obstacles in the blue economy ranging from damage to their habitat such as illegal and unregulated fishing that threatens the ecosystem must be addressed immediately.

"This is exacerbated by the supply of advertising, Indonesia is also prone to threats of natural disasters, such as tsunamis that threaten human lives," he said.

Nevertheless, he said, the PNLG PEMSEA agenda in Tangerang Regency is expected to encourage efforts to improve the potential of coastal and water ecosystems.

"So basically there should be changes in integrated management in coastal areas, such as mangroves, arrangement or coastal areas. Including plastic waste that enters the sea," said Siti Nurbaya.
