Macintosh computer used by Steve Jobs at auction, estimated to sell for IDR 3 billion - IDR 4 billion

JAKARTA - The Macintosh computer used by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs from 1988 to 1994 is currently under auction.

The computer is being auctioned by global auctioneer Bonhams, which estimates the Macintosh will sell for between $200,000 and $300,000.

The History of Science and Technology, including the Space History auction, is now open for bidding and closes on October 25.

"This presents a unique opportunity to have an intimate legacy from one of the greatest innovators of our time", said Bonhams.

Jobs used computers while at NeXT, the company he founded after he left Apple in 1985, and the company Apple bought in 1997.

Macintosh computers were installed in his office from 1988 to 1994, a key year span in its development, according to Bonhams.

Although confidential and other data was removed from this computer when it was no longer used, the hard drive provided insight into Jobs and his work at NeXT and Pixar, the computer animation studio he ran, the auction company said.

The model, a late 1987 Macintosh, came with a 20MB internal hard drive, keyboard, mouse, and an additional spare hard drive, Bonhams explained.

"The system was created by his assistant who had worked for him from 1986 to 1990. The computer showed weekly assignments, recruitment information, travel plans, and even missed meetings with King Charles III (of England, then still Prince of Wales)", he explained.

Jobs continued to use the device, as it kept his personal Rolodex, between 1990 and 1993.

There is also evidence that Jobs' daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, used the device during her visits to the office, as the email system and Microsoft Word were registered in her name.

The Macintosh was last used for a marketing project that Jobs supervised in 1994 and was given to the current owner later that year, during which Jobs said he might have value someday, Bonhams said.
