YOGYAKARTA - The National Transportation Safety Commission, which is then abbreviated as a NTSC, is a non-structural institution under the president that was formed to investigate and research transportation accidents. So, what are the tasks and functions of the NTSC?

Please note, the NTSC was formed in order to improve security and ensure public confidence in the guarantee of transportation modes in Indonesia.

The formation of the NTSC began with the issuance of a Decree of the Ministry of Transportation Number KP.3/LT.403/Phb-94 concerning Research on Aircraft Accident Causes.

According to the decree, the purpose of establishing the NTSC is to examine problems in Indonesian flights related to accidents.

Thus, every aircraft crash that occurs in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia needs research to be carried out to determine the cause of the accident.

Then, in 1997, the Ministry of Transportation issued a Decree Number Sk.2/HK601/PHB-97 concerning the Establishment of the Research Commission for Aircraft Accident Causes in 1997-1999.

Along with the development of the aviation and maritime industries in Indonesia, the function of the Research Commission for the Cause of Aircraft Accidents is below the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, then pulled up and directly responsible for the President.

In 1999, Indonesian President BJ Habibie issued Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 105 of 1999 concerning the National Transportation Commission.

The Presidential Decree then became the basis for the formation of the NTSC which was tasked with conducting investigations related to the lack of flight safety, maritime, trains and road transportation.

The NTSC has an important role, especially regarding the results of the accident investigation. From this investigation, the NTSC issued a recommendation to prevent similar accidents from occurring.
