SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa asked the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to investigate information that said victims of the Kanjuruhan Malang tragedy were charged after receiving treatment at the Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA).

"I think Komnas HAM can easily ask the families of the victims who are currently being treated. If they are not treated at the RSSA, I don't know. The RSSA belongs to the East Java Provincial Government, everything is in my consolidation," said Khofifah, Monday, October 17.

Khofifah responded to the report by Komnas HAM which stated that the East Java Provincial Government had stopped financing the injured victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, Malang, due to confusing data.

In the report, Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam stated that he would investigate the truth of the information.

Choirul Anam admitted that he regretted if the information he received was correct, considering the number of injured victims was not small.

Governor Khofifah emphasized that all costs for the victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy who were being treated at the RSSA were borne by the East Java Provincial Government.

"I have coordinated with the Director of the Malang RSSA, Dr. Kohar Hari Santoso. All patients of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, whether they are hospitalized or want to be under control at the Malang RSSA, are guaranteed not to be charged or free," she said.

Kohar explained the procedure if there are new patients who come to the RSSA claiming to be victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, they will first be asked to complete several requirements.

"If the requirements are met, the Kanjuruhan tragedy patients, both those being treated and coming for control, will be given free services," he said.

The latest data on the victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy published by the Health Service of the Malang Regency Government totaled 754 people, consisting of 596 minor injuries, 26 seriously injured, and 132 people died.
