JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) has decided to provide protection to 19 witnesses of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy, Malang Regency, East Java.

LPSK Deputy Chair Edwin Partogi said the coverage was given because the witnesses promised to cooperate when questioned to reveal the facts of the riot that claimed 132 lives.

"Actually, there is no intimidation or threat. This is because they are willing to be witnesses in this incident," Edwin told reporters, Wednesday, October 12.

Edwin said the 19 people had met the requirements after volunteering to receive protection from LPSK.

"There were supporters, there were medical personnel, the fans witnessed, some were victims and were taken to the hospital," said Edwin.

LPSK, said Edwin, has also submitted a recommendation to the East Java Regional Police in handling the bloody tragedy on Saturday, October 1. One of them invited the police to examine witnesses who received LPSK protection.

"We have also recommended to the East Java Regional Police, if they are needed they are ready to be questioned," he said. It is known that the National Police have named six suspects related to the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. The suspects are LIB President Director Ahmad Hadian Lukita, Malang Arema Panpel Chair Abdul Haris, and Suko Sutrisno's Security Treasurer. The National Police also named three members of the Bhayangkara Corps as suspects, namely the Head of Ops of the Malang Police, Kompol Wahyu Setyo Pranoto, Head of Samapta Malang Police AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi, and the Commander of the Mobile Brigade Company of the East Java Police AKP Hasdarman.
