Musi Banyuasin Regent's Sentence Reduced By 2 Years, KPK Files Cassation

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has filed an appeal against the decision of the inactive Musi Banyuasin Regent Dodi Reza Alex Noerdin. The anti-corruption commission is not satisfied with reducing the sentence from six years to four years.

"Today, October 5, 2022, KPK Prosecutor, Meyer Simanjuntak, has finished submitting the memorandum of cassation to Defendant Dodi Reza Alex Noerdin through the special criminal registry for the Corruption Court at the Palembang District Court", said the Head of the KPK News Section, Ali Fikri, to reporters, Wednesday, October 5.

In the appeal filed, the KPK Prosecutor asked Dodi to be sentenced to a corporal sentence of 10 years and 7 months in prison. He was also asked to pay replacement money of IDR 2.9 billion.

Ali also said Dodi's political rights should be revoked. "Revocation of political rights for five years", he said.

The KPK requested that this appeal be granted. Thus, the deterrent effect can be maximized.

"We hope that this appeal can be accepted and grant all the demands of the prosecutor team", said Ali.

Previously reported, the Panel of Judges of the Palembang District Court sentenced Dodi Reza Alex to 6 years in prison for the alleged bribery case of working on four projects at the PUPR Office of Musi Banyuasin Regency in 2021. He was also required to pay a fine of IDR 250 million and replacement money of IDR 1.16 billion.

However, this verdict was circumcised after Dodi appealed. The Palembang High Court sentenced the son of the former South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin to four years in prison.
