3 UI Labs Trusted By Ministry Of Health To Be Part Of Vaccine Research Center

JAKARTA - Three laboratories from the University of Indonesia (UI) are trusted by the Ministry of Health to be part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Center of Excellence (CoE) on Vaccine and Biotechnology Products network laboratory or OIC research center for vaccines and biotechnology products.

Head of Public Relations and KIP UI Bureau Amelita Lusia, M.Sc. CPR said the three UI Labs were the Bioanalysis Laboratory of the University of Indonesia-Daewoong Foundation (UI-DF), the Integrated Laboratory Research Center (ILRC), and the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI) Laboratory which was established by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI).

The Indonesian Ministry of Health launched the OIC CoE network laboratory in order to support the achievement of the goal of independence in the production of vaccines and biotechnology products for the needs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Previously, Indonesia was appointed as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation – Center of Excellence (OIC – CoE) on Vaccine and Biotechnology Products in the Resolutions of the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (ICHM) in 2017.

At the conference, the terms of reference for the OIC research center in the development of vaccines and biotechnology products in Indonesia were approved and are expected to be made soon.

In 2018 OIC CoE was officially launched in Jakarta by the Minister of Health with PT Biofarma as the OIC CoE Laboratory. In order to increase the cooperation and capacity of researchers in OIC member countries, the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH) held a Fellowship for Research and Advance Training in Virology and Vaccine Technologies program.

Through this program, the Indonesian Ministry of Health provided the opportunity for four researchers from Egypt and Pakistan to do internships in Indonesia.

"Let's collaborate with each other, I believe this meeting and collaboration with OIC is a good start to conduct joint research, of course with good results. I hope this opportunity will further improve the world's health system for future generations," said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, as quoted Monday.
