JAKARTA - Patimban Port, Subang, West Java is targeted to start operating next month. Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation has rushed to finalize the map of the port's waters.

Director General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Agus H Purnomo said that currently the Patimban Port marine map is in the finalization stage.

Agus estimates that the map of the Patimban Port waters will be completed next week. When finished, he ensures that the map of the Patimban Port waters will be published immediately.

"God willing, on Wednesday or Thursday it will be published internationally. This map will be valid and ready," he said, in a webinar of the Ministry of Transportation 3: Patimban Port and National Logistics Performance, Friday, November 27.

As is known, the soft launching of Patimban Port is planned to be carried out in December 2020. At that time, the Patimban Port vehicle terminal can be used for the export and import of cars.

Later, said Agus, if Patimban Port is fully operational after three stages of development, the international vehicle terminal capacity will be 3,760 CBU and domestic 897 CBU. The total capacity reaches 4,657 CBU.

Previously, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya said that the construction of Patimban Port was divided into three phases. In the second phase, construction will begin in 2021. With this continued development, the port container capacity is targeted to reach 3.75 million TEUs by 2023.

"In 2021 we will build a 66 hectare container in Patimban Port; 3.75 million TEU containers, and a vehicle terminal with a capacity of 600 thousand CBU," he said.

Then, in the next phase or the third phase, Budi Karya targets Patimban Port to accommodate containers of up to 7.5 million-14 million TEUs. The completion of the Patimban development is targeted to be completed in 2027.

Budi also ensured that the port construction would consider various security aspects, such as navigation preparation, the Code of Security for Ship Facilities and International Port Facilities (ISPS), quarantine procedures, and improved access.

"We will make repairs for public transportation such as those related to bus stops," he said.

To boost the economy of the local community, Budi said his ministry will also work with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to provide entrepreneurial training for residents. The government will also provide ship assistance with a larger capacity for fishermen.
