Declare Ready to Advance for Presidential Election to Foreign Media, Observer: Anies Needs Foreign Recognition

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has stated that he is ready to run for president if there is a political party that supports him. He expressed this readiness in an interview with foreign media Reuters in Singapore two days ago.

However, the statement that was revealed to foreign media actually received the spotlight. The public is a bit 'wrinkled', why is Anies more confident in revealing his intention to run as a presidential candidate to outside media rather than local media?

A political observer from Indonesia's Al Azhar University, Andriadi Achmad, said that Anies' attitude indicated that the former Minister of Education and Culture needed recognition from abroad. Because in Indonesia itself, Anies' name has become a recommendation for political parties to be nominated as president in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

"Actually, there is no need to ask and socialize that Anies Baswedan has been confirmed as one of the presidential candidates for Indonesia. Anies Baswedan needs foreign recognition as one of Indonesia's 2024 potential presidential candidates", Andriadi told VOI, Saturday, September 17.

In addition, according to Andriadi, foreign media are more effective in reporting that he is a candidate for President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. Therefore, Anies is more open to outside media than national media.

"One of them through coverage and socialization by foreign media is definitely more effective. Therefore, it is appropriate for Anies Baswedan to be more open to foreign media than domestic media", said the Executive Director of the Nusantara Institute PolCom SRC.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan flew to Singapore in the past few days. There he was interviewed by Reuters about his plans after he no longer served as governor.

To the foreign media, Anies stated that he was ready to run as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election if there was a political party or coalition of political parties who wanted to carry him.

"I am ready to run for president if a party nominates me", Anies told Reuters in an interview in Singapore, Thursday, September 15.

Anies revealed that he has the space to communicate with all parties to be able to take part in the political contestation in the next two years. This is because he is a political figure who is on an independent path and does not join any party.

Anies also responded to several survey results of presidential candidates which showed that his current electability was among the highest. "These unsolicited surveys happened before I even campaigned, I think they gave me more credibility", said Anies.
