JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) School of Public Health (FKM) student, Ulfi Hida Zainita, won the Best Student Presentation at the 19th Pacific Basin Consortium for Environment and Health International Conference (PBC Conference) 2022 in South Korea.
"I have interesting findings from the paper that knowledge related to climate change in Indonesian youth, both in urban and rural areas, is still very limited," said Ulfi, who is a student of the UI FKM Health Promotion S-2 Program, in Depok, Saturday, September 10.
In addition, it was found that the welfare of teenagers was affected by climate change, ranging from the lack of fulfillment of the right to education, the right to a decent life, to the right to healthy and nutritious food.
"This paper also reveals how human knowledge, perception, and attitude regarding climate change has a significant effect on the intensity of pro-environmental behavior in adolescents," he said.
To overcome this, the recommendation given to the Indonesian government is to be committed to providing formal and non-formal education due to climate change that can reach teenagers, in order to maintain their welfare.
Before getting the chance to qualify as a participant, Ulfi had gone through a series of processes. First, he was asked to draw up abstracts and papers to be handed over to the committee. The Abstrak managed to amaze the organizers.
Therefore, Ulfi and his team managed to get a grant to take part in a series of conferences in person in South Korea and make a presentation which then led him to become the winner of Best Student Presentation.
"We need cooperation from the academic sector, NGOs (governmental organizations), the community, mass media, and private companies to support government policies in order to protect youth basic rights and welfare from climate change," he said.
The international conference in South Korea raised the theme "Environmental Exposure in a Changing Climate" organized by the International Environmental Research Institute (IERIES) and Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (GIST).
