Adding The Findings Of Elephant Ivory With An Age Of 1.5 Million Years, The Total Fossils In The Patiayam Kudus Museum Are 40

KUDUS - A 2.5-meter-long elephant tusk fossil was found in the Patiayam Site area in Terban Village, Jekulo District, Kudus Regency, Central Java. With this finding, the number of ancient elephant ivory fossil collections at the Patiayam Museum is increasing.

Acting Head of the Culture and Tourism Office of Kudus Regency, Mutrikah confirmed the finding of a 2.5-meter-long elephant tusk fossil in the Patiayam Site area six months ago.

The findings, she said, have been followed up with activities to rescue the ancient elephant tusk fossils with the Sangiran Early Human Site Preservation Center (BPSMP) team and the process of giving poly oretans and lifting the findings to be brought to the Patiayam Archaeological Site Museum.

"Currently, it is at the Patiayam Site Museum," she said in Kudus, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 18.

The Coordinator of the Patiayam Archaeological Museum, Kudus Jamin, added that the fossil was found by Ronzi, a resident of Terban Village, while carrying out farming activities around Patiayam evidence.

After receiving reports from residents, she said, the findings were reported to the Kudus Regency Culture and Tourism Office. Then forwarded to BPSMP Sangiran.

"Incidentally, BPSMP Sangiran has an agenda to save the Patiayam site," she said.

Then in early August 2022, she said, an evacuation process was carried out and on August 8, 2022, he was evacuated to the Patiayam Kudus Museum.

She revealed that the condition of the elephant tusk was still in good condition because it still looked intact. Other findings, namely fossil fragments of ancient elephant spines and have been evacuated to the museum.

Based on the information from the expert team, the age of the fossil in terms of geology is between 750,000 and 1.5 million years ago.

With the discovery of the elephant tusk fossils, up to now there have been 40 ancient elephant tusks recorded, while the condition is still intact about 25 tusks and the longest is about 4 meters.
