Toddler Vomiting After Being Given Fever-reducing Medicine That Has Expired Since 2020

TANGERANG - A child under five years old (toddler) with the initials ARK experienced vomiting and had a high fever. The family said that ARK had a fever and vomited after receiving medicine from the Bunga Kenanga Posyandu, Karang Tengah, Tangerang City.

What made ARK's family panicked after finding out that the fever-reducing medication given by the Posyandu had expired.

Widya, ARK's family said they were surprised when the medicine given from the Posyandu turned out to be expired.

"I thought, I was negligent, right, I just thought I was a medical person, I should be more careful, right, it's medicine, not just food," said Widya when met in the Pondok Pucung area, Karang Tengah, Tangerang City,

Furthermore, Widya said that he had given the fever-reducing medicine to his son twice. But instead of getting cured, the baby was vomiting at night.

"Twice, in the afternoon and evening before in WA. Once, at 8 o'clock at night before going to bed. Vomited after drinking," he said.

"Usually it's not like this, if you spit it out, you have but it's not like this," he continued.

On that occasion, Widya explained that it was not only him who received expired drugs, it turned out that there were other residents. This was known when he saw the Whatsapp group.

"Those are all given the same medicine, it turns out that it fits in the group, there are only three people here," he said.

For this incident, Widya hopes that the Tangerang City Government through the Tangerang City Health Office can be more careful in administering the drug.

"Yes, this is a danger for children, they should be more careful. If my child arrives, why don't you try, I wonder how you can give expired medicine like this," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Pedurenan Health Center, Dr. Andita, when contacted, admitted that he was not aware of the incident. He is currently trying to clarify what is involved about the drug.

"Sorry, we are clarifying further. Because my position is also not at the puskesmas," he concluded.
